Today I decided to push filter artwork and fractal interpolation further than I have done before.
Rather than interpolating to enhance an aspect of a picture (the heart in the "I give you my heart" image), or to make something clearly based upon a photograph (as with "Digital Angel"), today's photo was created specifically so I could interpolate a fractal design from it.
I started with a bowl of milk. I then added both red and then blue food colouring, and gave it a stir. While the milk was still swirling I took the photograph.
With the resulting image I created three duplicate layers in Photoshop. The bottom layer was the original image. The middle layer was a fractal interpolation set at normal blend and 70% opacity. This allowed a little of the original photograph to show through and give the image some depth. It also softened the fractals. Finally I applied a cyanotype filter to the top layer, and set it to screen blend at 12% opacity.
